The Route des Grandes Alpes is one of the most legendary routes in the world and offers an impressive mix of spectacular mountain landscapes and picturesque villages. With a length of over 700 kilometers and an elevation difference of almost 16,000 meters, it is a unique experience for any nature lover. The Route des Grandes Alpes is particularly popular with cyclists and motorcyclists and is considered one of the most beautiful routes in the world.

The route

The route starts in Thonon-les-Bains and goes through the Chablais Massif towards Morzine. From there, it continues through the Aravis Massif until La Clusaz. Then, the journey continues through the Beaufortain Massif and over the Col de l'Iseran, which at an altitude of 2,764 meters is the highest drivable pass in Europe. After that, it goes through the Maurienne Valley and over the Col du Galibier, another spectacular pass with an altitude of 2,642 meters.

The route continues through the Vanoise National Park, where more spectacular passes like the Col de l’Izoard and the Col de la Bonette await me. Then it continues through the Mercantour Massif and finally down to the Mediterranean coast and the destination of Menton.

Along the route, there are numerous picturesque villages and towns that I will definitely visit to see the most beautiful ones. I am also looking forward to various hikes through the spectacular landscapes.

I can hardly wait to drive on the Route des Grandes Alpes, one of the most spectacular roads in Europe, and enjoy many breathtaking views of the French Alps!
