This massive project will be the fulfillment of a lifelong dream! In addition to the road trip itself, this project will involve the self-conversion of a camper van, as well as its shipment across the ocean and back.

Route length: About 22.000 - 30.000 km
Travel duration: At least 6 month

Project planning

The motorhome

I will do this road trip with a self-converted motorhome. After 12 years of van life experience, I know what it takes to build a suitable vehicle. Moreover, in the past, I have already converted smaller motorhomes for personal use.

Material requirements

Base vehicle
Materials for insulation and interior lining
Materials for furniture making
Mattresses and upholstery
Sink, stove, refrigerator, washroom, shower etc.
Water and waste water tanks
Fresh water and waste water lines
Water pump, taps, etc.
Heating and ventilation
Electrics (lithium batteries, solar panels, inverters, etc.)
Interior lighting
Separating toilet
Windows, skylights and storage hatches
Curtains or blinds for the windows
Security equipment (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, locks, etc.)
Accessories (table, chairs, e-bikes, etc.)

The route

The journey starts with the shipment of the camper van from Germany to Baltimore/USA. From there, it goes across the United States to California and then along the coast heading north. In Whitehorse, the second part of this trip begins, which will take me along the "Big 8" to the most beautiful corners of Alaska. Then, it goes back towards the East Coast to Halifax in Canada for the return shipment.
